Rotarians met March 26, both virtually via Zoom and in person, while compliant with Covid protocols in the back room of the Ponderosa Restaurant. Our guest speakers included Jeff Greene, who will compete in the snowshoeing event at the 2022 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Russia, and Nancy Greene, his mom and coach, to share the details of this incredible, once in a lifetime experience and all the preparations along the way to make that happen.

Orofino Rotary President, James Jordan announced the following items in his report:

Planning is starting for the Fourth of July Food Booth event.

Jerry Nelsen has volunteered to coordinate the county elections setup projects.  A coordinator is needed for the Kiwanis Park project. Contact James Jordan if you are interested. We will visit and evaluate the park following this Friday’s meeting.

Lynn MacEachern wrote a nice article for the first Rotary Spotlight of Service piece in the March 17, Clearwater Tribune. These articles will be submitted periodically to honor volunteers in our community who exemplify Rotary’s ideal of “Service Above Self”. Please send suggestions for honorees to Lynn.

The club received a thank you note from the Salvation Army for our holiday donation.

The date for the blood drive has been changed to Wednesday, May 19, from 11 a.m. until 5:45 p.m. Jim McCann is coordinating this project and will be looking for volunteers to help staff it.

The Highway 7 Cleanup project was a success with 18 bags of trash collected. Participating were James Jordan, Jack and Marie Christiansen, Jim O’Leary, Phil Petersen, David Judd, Scott and Lori McDonald, Annie Lozar, and Mike Hedrick.

Cleaning and painting of the Rotary Pavilion at City Park will take place in late April or early May. The food booth trailer will also be repaired during that time.

Lynn MacEachern will do a presentation on the Rotary Interact Club for the Orofino High School.
