Emmerdale actress Susan Cookson has revealed she was in ‘utter shock’ when she learned what onscreen son Luke Posner was hiding

Emmerdale’s Luke Posner will drop a “nightmare” of a confession on his mum Wendy, leading to a “ripple effect” in the village.

According to Wendy actress Susan Cookson, the ITV soap scenes will leave the character with a moral dilemma as she urges Luke to confess all to his girlfriend Victoria.

Spoilers had revealed that Luke tells his mother a secret before warning her to stay silent about it, amid trouble for the character.

In recent episodes he was exposed as catfishing Ethan, while he has also clashed with Ethan over his sexuality – after the newcomer revealed he’d dated one of his male friends.

Luke has denied liking men, saying it was a one off, and has since been eager to make things work with Victoria – but it seems he could be about to risk everything when he drops a secret on Wendy.

Judging by what actress Susan has teased, Wendy will be worried about Victoria’s feelings and it could impact others too.

Speaking to Inside Soap magazine, the actress said: “When I read the scripts and saw what was going to happen, it just blew me away!

“It’s just so clever and interesting, and it immediately made me think, ‘Oh, my God, what’s Wendy going to do?’ I thought it was great story writing.”

She added: “It’s a complete and utter shock – it’s another awful revelation, and she has a real moral dilemma.

“Wendy feels as if so many mistakes have been made already, and after everything that happened with her son Lee, she’s desperate to get things right with Luke, and also make sure that the decisions are right for everyone involved.

“There’s real pressure on her – she doesn’t want to jump to conclusions, or give the wrong advice.”

On the repercussions she went on: “She could have a relatively easy life if she doesn’t say anything! But Wendy knows only too well that if you cover things up, they come back to haunt you.

“She also knows that there will be a ripple effect, and that could cause damage to others.

“So she realises her approach has to be truthful, and that everything needs to be out in the open. But it’s a bloomin’ nightmare for her!”

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
